More than 60 homes are under a mandatory evacuation order due to a quickly spreading wildfire in Rulison.
Officials say the fire started around 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon and may have been sparked by dry lightening.
Fire crews worked hard into the evening to gain the upper hand on the fire burning south of I–70 in Rulison near 320 Road. So far it's torched about 260 acres.
Helicopters, a heavy drop plane and multiple fire departments are on scene fighting the blaze. Crews are trying to decide whether they will attempt to back burn.
Evacuees are finding refuge at Rifle High School, and pets are being taken in at Divide Creek Animal Hospital and the Garfield County Fairgrounds. So far no structures have caught fire and no one has been injured.
