Mesa County Health Department Officials announce Friday that mosquitoes in Mesa County have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
Two tests done in the area were positive. The first sample was taken near Fruitvale and the second was from a sample from all around Mesa County. This is the first confirmed West Nile activity in Mesa County this year.
There are additional tests pending on other samples. Residents are strongly encouraged to take action to prevent mosquito bites. This includes wearing protectant that contains 'Deet' and draining standing water on your property.
Two human cases of the disease have been identified in Colorado, one in Logan County and the other in Cheyenne County.
