GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A Central High School student that brought a gun to school earlier this month has been sentenced.
According to Deputy District Attorney Brandy Elliss 15-year-old Cody Jensen pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon on school grounds and was sentenced Thursday to 18 months probation, five days in a detention facility and 100 hours of community service. Jensen will also have to participate in a prosocial activity.
Jensen is just one of five Central High School students facing charges for possessing a handgun.
Officials say a student spotted the gun in 15-year-old Connor Whaley’s backpack.
Another student sold it to him and two other students handled the gun at school and didn’t report it.
School district 51 says it can't comment on the students. However, district policy states that any student who brings, possesses or carries a gun at school is subject to mandatory expulsion for one year in accordance with state and federal laws.
Officials say threats were never made to any students and no one was injured.
The rest of the students will be in court next month.
