Birgfeld Search In Need Of Volunteers

By  |

Nearly 500 people were expected to take part in the search for missing mother of three Paige Birgfeld, but not even half that many have showed up.

On Saturday, 75 volunteers searched for Birgfeld near where her car was found. On Sunday, a little more than 40 turned out to comb a 15 mile stretch of Highway 50. On Monday, only 30 people signed up to help.

Organizers say the intense heat and the start of the work week are taking a toll on the volunteer base. Connie Flukey with the Abby & Jennifer Recovery Foundation says too much hype may have also kept people away. Flukey says they had a strong response from people wanting to help, and when they shared that with the media, many people then thought they weren't needed.

More volunteers are needed to help in the search for Birgfeld. If you would like to help just show up anytime at the Lands End Fire District.

Donations of hot meals and water are also needed. Contact Connie Flukey for more information.
