LOMA, Colo. (KKCO) - Highway 139 was shut down after a two-vehicle crash ignited a tanker hauling thousands of gallons of propane.
Colorado State Patrol says the tanker crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic as a pickup truck was driving down it -- and when the truck swerved to miss the tanker, the two vehicles collided. Troopers say as a result, the tank split, propane began leaking of out it and the gas caught fire.
Officials say no one in either vehicle was injured.
The Lower Valley Fire District, Colorado State Patrol, CDOT and Grand Junction HazMat Team were called out to the scene.
The Lower Valley Fire District says the tanker driver told them he was hauling 7,500 gallons of propane. Chief Frank Cavaliere says crews made the decision to let the gas burn out before they would try to clear the scene.
