As the search for Paige Birgfeld moves south, folks with the Abby and Jennifer Recovery Foundation are hoping they'll receive the same amount of support in Delta County as they have in Mesa County.
Since July 14 volunteers with the foundation have been combing the ground looking for any sign of the missing mother of three. The community has also chipped in and donated nearly $20,000 worth of food and supplies. Head of the foundation Connie Flukey says the support from Mesa County has been overwhelming and she can't thank people enough.
Community support is vital to search efforts made by the foundation. In fact, every time it's called out on a search they begin with nothing. Flukey says the foundation plans to apply for funding when the Birgfeld search is over. But until then she and her husband are left to foot the bill. So far the search in Mesa County has put them out $500, and without donations for the week long search in Delta they could be looking at thousands.
Flukey says searches are expensive because you have to take care of the volunteers. Whether it's water or money, every little bit will help. But with or without donations the foundation vows to keep the search going.
On Saturday the foundation will search the Grand Mesa area toward Cedaredge. Volunteers on horse back and ATV are still needed. People can pre–register Friday at the Bill Heddles Recreation Center in Delta. The staging area will be the Delta Round–Up Club Arena. To make a donation or volunteer call 260–1821.
