Xcel to muffle whine coming from Colo. power plant
Xcel Energy will spend $1.5 million to muffle a high-pitched whine coming from a Colorado power plant that neighbors say is ruining their sleep and tormenting their dogs.

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - Xcel Energy will spend $1.5 million to muffle a high-pitched whine coming from a Colorado power plant that neighbors say is ruining their sleep and tormenting their dogs.
Minneapolis-based Xcel said Thursday it will install baffles in the smokestack of a new unit at the coal-fired Comanche Plant in Pueblo. They're expected to be in place by the end of April.
It's not clear whether Xcel will seek to pass the cost onto ratepayers.
People who live miles from the plant have complained about the noise. Xcel says it appears to be coming from fans that create a draft up the smokestack.
The $1 billion, 750-megawatt Comanche 3 unit was expected to go online in November, but leaks in boiler tubes have delayed that.
