DENVER (AP) - State education officials are in Washington making their pitch for why colorado should win millions in federal education funding.

The team representing Colorado was making its presentation Tuesday.

Colorado was among 16 states - and the only from the west – to be chosen as a finalist in the “Race To The Top” competition earlier this month.

Winners will be announced in April and losers can reapply for a second round later this year, but there's no guarantee finalists will win any money.

Colorado is hoping to win $377 million to pay for things such as expanded merit pay for teachers, more training, and new systems to track the performance of teachers and principals. Their ratings
would be linked to how their students are progressing.
