One man is dead and another is behind bars after a hit–and–run incident in the Pear Park section of Grand Junction.
At around 2:00 a.m. Sunday, Grand Junction police were notified of a man walking along 30 Road. While in route to that location, officers got a call that the same man was struck by an SUV traveling south on 30 Road near D Road. The driver of the SUV didn't stop.
The victim 26-year-old Mario Mondragon of Grand Junction died at St. Mary's Hospital. Using witness' descriptions of the run vehicle police were able to locate and later arrest 25-year-old Michael Robert Ocampo. Ocampo is facing a charge of vehicular homicide.
Investigators are looking into whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
