GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A new Internet Web site that offers you a chance to meet and chat with random strangers online often times pairs you up with more than you're looking for, or wanting to see, and authorities want parents to know about it.

The site is called "Chatroulette" and offers to pair you up, one-on-one, with someone to chat with and see via webcam.

The site asks that all users be over the age of 16, and that no obscene or pornographic material be shared, but Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger says there's really no way to be sure or to patrol these types of Internet sites, and parents need to make their children aware of the dangers that are out there. "My bottom line is you gotta just educate your kids about how dangerous it can be out there, and what I tell my kids is you should never be using computers or Internet to be communicating with anyone you don't personally know."

Hautzinger says there are plenty of predators out there looking for ways to get access to children, and this Web site can be one of them.

He says consider putting something on your child's computer to block sites like these, but more importantly, have the Internet safety discussion with them sooner rather than later.

"Chatroulette" is a free site, no log-in or signing up is required, and within minutes, we too saw plenty of inappropriate videos of "chatters" without clothes or making obscene gestures.

Even if you don't have a webcam yourself, you can still see other people who do, and having selected the option for a "clean conversation" seemed to make no difference.

The Web site was founded back in November in Russia, and now boasts more than a million users a day.
