Aspen airport to assess wildlife hazards
The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport is assessing wildlife hazards following three collisions between commercial aircraft and small birds last year.

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport is assessing wildlife hazards following three collisions between commercial aircraft and small birds last year.
A Federal Aviation Administration grant is expected to cover $133,000 of the $140,000 assessment.
The Airport's Assistant Aviation Director of Operations Francey Jesson says none of the collisions caused problems for the aircraft involved.
The airport is among about 100 assessing wildlife hazards following similar events. Others in Colorado are the Montrose, Pueblo, Yampa Valley and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airports.
In January 2009, a US Airways flight landed in the Hudson River after striking several birds after taking off in New York. Everyone survived.
