By  |

Police officers are finding themselves in situations dealing with mental heath crisis and sometimes these situations can be hard to handle.

With a growing number of people are unable to access mental health services, police officers are often the first responders to mental health crisis calls. This week the first group of officers are completing an intensive Crisis Intervention Team training program. The goal of this training is to establish an effective, proactive approach to dealing with mental health crisis calls.

The group of 17 officers going through the training are from Grand Junction Police Department, Fruita Police Department, Mesa County Sheriffs Office, and Colorado State Patrol. The State of Colorado is sponsoring the training to ensure success in Mesa County.
