GRAND MESA, Colo. (KKCO) - A snowmobiler 36 hours overdue was found by search and rescue crews atop the Grand Mesa.

The snowmobiler, 36 year-old Eric Smirow, was found around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, just a few hours after crews began looking for him. Officials say he is good condition.

Mesa County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Heather Benjamin says the Delta County man had been missing for 36 hours after a snowmobile trip he took alone on the Mesa.

Officials found the man's vehicle in a parking lot on the Mesa. Benjamin says rescue crews including rural area deputies, search and rescue snowskippers, communication team and a ground team looked for the man.

The parking lot where his vehicle was found served as a command post.

Officials with search and rescue say a friend of Smirow's alerted authorities after he had not returned home.

Search and rescue teams found Smirow about eight miles from the parking lot. Smirow had survival gear and was sitting in front of a fire when teams arrived.

Officials say Smirow got stuck after having mechanical problems with his snowmobile.
