Charges Filed In Crash That Critically Injured College Student

Charges have been filed against a distracted driver who rolled his car and seriously injured his college friend Monday morning.

Chiekh Elmoctar–Salem has is facing charges of careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury.

According the Colorado State Patrol, Elmoctar– Salem was driving on Interstate-70 near DeBeque when he reached down for bottled water. He then over-corrected and rolled his car one and a half times.

His friend Cheikh Mamady was ejected and taken to St. Mary's Hospital with serious injuries. As of Tuesday night he remained in critical condition.

Elmoctar-Salem and another passenger in the car received only minor injuries.

The men are all students at Colorado School of Mines and here with student visas.
