This year's Mill Levy freeze has some people a little tight on cash but a surplus from last year will help ease some of the pressure.
Every property owner in Mesa County will see a temporary Mill Levy reduction on their Property Tax Assessment Forms in 2008. This money is coming from a three million dollar surplus from 2006 TABOR funds. Local officials say this rebate is to help cover costs from Governor Ritter's Property Tax increase on working families, small businesses, and the elderly.
Due to the Mill Levy freeze, taxpayers will pay an additional $4.1 million in property taxes in 2007 and though this three million will not cover the entire cost it will ease some of the burden.
