Sex Offender Worked at Mesa State College

A sex offender who had a job cleaning dorms on the Mesa State campus is out on bond.

Deputies arrested thirty-four year old Christopher Rock on Tuesday after they say he didn't notify the college he was a sex offender. Rock was convicted of a sexual assault 14 years ago.

Rock was not employed by the college, he was working for a temp agency called Quick Temps.

Quick Temps said they had no idea he was a registered sex offender when they hired him to work with a cleaning crew.

Quick temps says it doesn't do background checks on all workers, only if it is requested by the employer.

Mesa State officials say they do require the temp agencies to do background checks, but this one slipped through the cracks.

Campus officials say Rock stopped working on campus last Friday before students returned to classes. They say the students were never in danger.

Mesa State says it will continue to use temp workers on campus but
will request a copy of the background checks.

Quick Temps says it will start doing back ground checks on all workers they send to a school setting.

The owner of Quick Temps says after Rock serves his time he will be considered for other jobs, as long as they aren't near a school.
