The Fruita Parks and Rec Board held a public meeting Monday night to discuss plans for a new recreation center, and to get input on what residents would like to see in it.
The Board says it plans on building the center in two phases, with a budget of $8 million for the first.
The three most important things community members want to see in the center are a pool, a fitness center, and a senior center.
Once funds are raised and a final plan is adopted, construction of the center will begin on North Cherry Ave where the Fruita Pool currently is.
To raise funds, the Board is proposing a one cent sales tax increase. They also hope to raise private funds.
Fruita residents will make their final decision on the rec center during elections next April.
