One person is dead and another injured after an accident Wednesday morning on Interstate 70.
The accident completely shut down the interstate but crews were able to work quickly and reopen all lanes of traffic.
Just after seven this morning, a semi truck driven by Paul Dobson of Las Vegas, pulled out of the rest area on I–70 near mile marker 38 and hit a small white sedan. The impact of the crash sent the car spinning into the median. Dobson got out of his truck to check on the driver of the white car and was hit and killed by a pickup truck driven by 28 year old James Wilson.
State Patrol says Wilson did not stop right away, and is now facing two felony charges for leaving the scene of an accident and not aiding in an accident that resulted in death. Wilson says he knew he ran over something but because it was raining and he had his windshield wipers on, he did not know what happened. He is currently being held in Mesa County Jail without bond. He is expected in court on Thursday.
The driver of the white four door sedan, Earl May of Clifton, was treated and released from the hospital.
