Fort hood, Texas (AP) A Colorado Springs man is being identified as one of two soldiers killed Wednesday in Iraq.

The Defense Department says 19-year-old Private First Class Dane Balcon of Colorado Springs died of injuries suffered in the detonation of an explosive device in Balad.

He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, based at Fort Hood, Texas.

He had returned to the school in May to talk with students and teachers about how he was doing as a soldier serving in Iraq.
