Friday afternoon two males are believed to have stolen items from the Walmart located on North Avenue. The first suspect was caught, then second on the run.
The second suspect made contact with several Colorado West Mental Health Center employees who say they saw the male carrying a six-inch, fixed-blade knife tucked into his waistband. The employees called 911 and the suspect took off in the direction of Nisley Elementary School.
Between the Grand Junction Police Department and School District 51, both Nisley Elementary and Bookcliff Middle schools were put under lock-down for about thirty minutes.
Three nearby daycare centers also were advised to lock down their facilities.
Colorado West officials placed their facility under lock-down as well.
Several Grand Junction patrol officers and a K-9 unit combed the area and turned up with nothing.
The male suspect is described to be a white male standing 5'8, wearing a blue and white stripped shirt, baggy blue jeans, a navy blue baseball cap, and is said to be clean shaven.
