GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - It’s hot out and if your swamp cooler isn’t cutting it anymore, Xcel Energy is offering a pretty big rebate if you replace it with a new one.
Residential Xcel customers in Colorado will get extra rebates until July 15. Depending on the unit you buy, you could get $250 to $600 back.
Residents installing a qualifying unit with a maximum airflow of 2,500 cubic feet a minute will get a $200 rebate with a bonus of $50 if it’s installed by July 15.
If you install a unit with a saturation effectiveness of 85 percent you’ll get a rebate of $500 and a bonus rebate of $100 if it’s installed by July 15.
If you install the unit before Dec. 31 you’ll still get the base rebate but not the bonus rebate.
Applications must be postmarked by July 31. Only permanent units qualify for the rebate.
Xcel officials say swamp coolers use 75 percent less energy than central air conditioners and can lower the temperature in your house by 30 percent.
