Search and Rescue Kicks Off First Annual Fundraiser Run

About eighty racers from around the Grand Valley took off down the Kokopelli Trail Saturday morning, for the Mesa County Search and Rescue's Trail Run Fundraiser.

Participants could choose between an eight mile loop and a sixteen mile loop. The first runners to the finish line were able to complete the 8 mile race in just under an hour.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mesa County Search and Rescue Ground Team to help pay for pagers and advanced training classes for its volunteers.

Event organizers say their first go at this was a success.

"The race is a good fundraiser for us because a lot of our people are active in the outdoors," said Search and Rescue Volunteer Randy Engle. "It's a nice, succinct way to raise a lot of funds."
