PALISADE, Colo. (KKCO) - The Town of Palisade says a petition to recall Mayor Dave Walker has been received by the Town Clerk.

The effort was spearheaded by Palisade resident Wayne Reid, a former Town Trustee candidate who was defeated during the municipal elections in April.

The petition Reid circulated stated Walker has not acted in the town's best interests and has used his power to intimidate others. He points to a March incident at the Livery Saloon in which a "lively debate" with Walker ended with him reportedly threatening to close down the bar.

Walker calls the effort both "sad" and "politically motivated."

During a June 10 interview with 11 News he said, "I do believe there will be a recall election. But I'm confident that the citizens of the Town of Palisade can see beyond what this group is trying to put forth."

The Town Clerk has five days (until July 29) to review the petition and determine the sufficiency of the signatures. Officials say for the recall petition to be sufficient, it must contain 103 valid signatures.
