GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KKCO) - It only takes a little more an hour to get to Glenwood Springs from Grand Junction so its no surprise many local people head east on I-70 and make the mountain oasis their little get away.
Glenwood Springs has a lot more to offer then just beauty, in fact, if you look toward Red Mountain, you may find more than wildflowers, you may find people!
Adventure Paragliding is taking people for a ride high above the
canyon.
Owner Pine Pienaar started the company seven years ago when he just couldn't keep the expereince of soaring like a bird to himself anymore.
Now he and his pilots do tandem flights which last between 15 and 30 minutes depending on the weather.
At the highest point, paragliders are nearly 1800 feet in the air.
It's an unbelievable sight to see and experience.
However, paragliding isn't the only mountian adventure to be found in Glenwood Springs because hidden deep in Iron Mountain is an underground wonder, the Caverns.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park gives 70 minute tours throughout its beautiful caves.
The deep rooms within the earth have been decorated with hundreds of natural cave formations. The kind of thing you really have to see in person.
As if a deep cave adventure wasn't enough, Glenwood Caverns also has a swing putting your swing set at home to shame.
It takes up to four passengers high above the Colorado River and hangs them over the canyon at more than fifty miles an hour. It is an adrenaline junkie's dream.
Down below, the Colorado river cuts right through the middle of Glenwood Canyon and Blue Sky Adventures uses this natural water park to give you a wild ride.
Guides decided help teams of people manuver down the river powerful river while even having some sections where you can sit back and relax, giving people a chance to see the canyon from a different perspective
Then there is the zipline, Glenwood Canyon Resorts has a zipline taking you across the Colorado River.
The fun starts on their ropes course 40 feet in the air then you are shot across the rapids on their zipline.
Then another unnerving obstacle course and back to where you came from... another zip across the mighty Colorado.
With everything there is to do in Glenwood Springs its no wonder why it's a great little get away!
