GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - REI in Grand Junction has donated nearly $23,000 to outdoor groups in the Grand Valley.
The organization celebrated the huge checks at the REI store on North Avenue Saturday. Nearly $8,000 will go to Colorado National Monument Association to clean up Echo Canyon Trail. The Grand Mesa Nordic Council received a gift of $5,000 to upkeep their trails for winter skiers and snowshoers.
COPMOBA, the Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association, received the biggest grant. The organization will use the $10,000 check to create a mountain biking skills park at the Lunch Loops trailhead.
The Lunch Loop skills area will be built just off the trailhead's Monument Road parking lot. Construction will begin in early October. COPMOBA officials say they still need donations to finish the park.
