FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO) -- For some business owners, keeping up with health care reform can be a daunting task, but one local insurance broker hoped to help clear up some of the muddy water by offering a presentation Monday evening.

"There's a lot of things on-- you know --you can Google, but some of it can be rather confusing, and so what I hope to do this evening is to bring that all closer together so people understand," said Cindy Peterson owner of Insurance Benefits by Design.

Any business with more than 50 full-time employees will have to offer health insurance or suffer penalties.

But Peterson said calculating full-time employees can be complicated.

"So there are two part-timers, and they average a certain number of hours in a calendar year, then they are used to calculate whether you are a large group or a small group," said Peterson.

Under the new law, every individual will be required to have health insurance starting in January 2014, but the insurance exchange website will be available for business owners to shop this fall.
