Altrusa International awards night

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) - Every year Altrusa International recognizes students who have overcome the odds of a non- traditional high school. A male and a female student from each of three schools here in the Grand Valley received awards Thursday night.

The schools are the Career Center, R-5, and Western Colorado Community College. The students were nominated by their teachers, "I think it's pretty cool that your teachers recognize you that much that they want to nominate you for an award that has to do with being in your work place and stuff and showing improvement and just being a leader in your work place so it's kinda cool to be nominated for it," says Brittanie Bikki, who attends R-5 high school. Her sister won the award a couple of years before.

The award winners receive their own plaque, as well as have their name placed on a plaque with previous winners. The plaque stays in the school that they represent. This is the 20th year for the Altrusa International program here in Grand Junction.
