GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Every year the city of Grand Junction has conducted an annual clean-up program to help residents get rid of yard waste and unusable household items. Although, the Mesa County Landfill does not accept electronic waste or any other hazardous wastes.
The majority of electronic devices contain some amount of lead, mercury and cadmium. Products that are corrosive, explosive, flammable and toxic are considered hazardous waste.
If you live north of North Avenue, your items need to be out by 7 a.m. on Apr. 15. If you live south of North Avenue, your items must be out by 7 a.m. on Apr. 22.
To get rid of your waste, place the items in one pile in the street against the gutter in front of your house. If you live in an area where there isn’t any street parking, you will receive a separate notification on where to place the waste.
You can also drop off your unwanted tires to the Municipal Service Center located at 333 West Avenue on Saturday, Apr. 27. A maximum of 4-passenger car or light truck size tires will be accepted, per household. Proof of residency is required, so bring your current Spring Clean-up flyer or the City of Grand Junction will bill you.
Items they will not pick-up:
- Asphalt rubble
- Concrete rubble
- Gas/Air cylinders
- Fuel tanks
- Items longer than 6 ft. in length
Items banned by Landfill:
- Air conditioners
- Liquids of any kind
- Cell phones/PDA's
- VCR/DVD players
- Scanners/Fax machines
- Gaming consoles
- MP3 Players/iPods
