GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Technology is making its way in the book industry.
According to a new study, as of November 2012, a third of American adults owned an e-reader or tablet; and just two and a half years ago only 3% owned these devices.
A local bookstore, CRYSTAL Books and Gifts, even started selling e-readers, but the owner says her book sales are what keep the business running, and not the new technology.
"Most of our customers want a book, they want to be able to take the book in their hand, turn the page," said Cheryl Lucas, CRYSTAL Books and Gifts.
Another way paper books are impacted by technology is online sales.
Customers will shop and check out books in local bookstores and then go find them online later and buy them, sometimes at a cheaper price.
