GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The suspect in an armed robbery and standoff with police has been sentenced.
Grand Junction Police identified Skylar Kesterson, 24, through DNA evidence, after he robbed the Check Into Cash store at the Rimrock Shopping Center last September.
He'll spend the next three years behind bars, but was given credit for time served of 189 days.
Kesterson also has to spend another two years on parole and pay nearly $430 in court fines and costs.
Kesterson threatened the two employees inside the store with a BB gun and took cash before fleeing on foot. Officers recovered the gun and collected DNA samples from it.
Kesterson's DNA was already in the convicted offender index and his victims picked him out of a photo lineup. Officers eventually found him in a room at the Mesa Inn on Horizon Drive. He held out for six hours before giving up.
