ASPEN, Colo. (AP) A trial over the city of Aspen's water rights on Castle and Maroon creeks has been set aside so that Aspen and the group claiming the city abandoned its rights can attempt to find a compromise.

The two sides are re-examining the impacts of a proposed hydroelectric facility on Castle Creek. If they can't agree on a consultant or on the scope of the study, the case will go to trial.

Aspen voters rejected a proposal to proceed with construction of the Castle Creek hydroelectric project.

According to the Aspen Times, the city says it was never legally bound to adhere to the result of a ballot question.
