MESA COUNTY, Colo. Deputies responded to a report of a death in an open BLM recreational area and the circumstances surrounding the situation are raising more questions than answers.

Sometime around 12:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Mesa County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of 34 and C Road in the desert for reports of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon arrival deputies discovered an adult male's body inside a pick up truck.

Further investigation raised suspicion to law enforcement, as the facts didn't support the initial report.

At this time, they are treating the incident as a suspicious death. The name and manner of death will not be released pending the Mesa County Corner's investigation and contacting next of kin.

The case remains under investigation. We will continue to update this story as the information becomes available.
