Back to school for the professionals

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Back to school season is quickly approaching. This year, some Grand Valley professionals may be joining the students as they prepare to hit the books.

Colorado Mesa University and the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to provide employees of the Western Slope with the resources to get back into the classroom.

For the 2014-2015 school year, any Grand Valley resident with a full-time job is eligible for the new Workforce Development Scholarship that covers 25% of tuition costs on up to six credit hours at all of CMU’s campuses.

A stipulation of the scholarship states that employers must work with their employees to cover the other 75% of student fees.

“We think that this would be a good motivation for employers and employees to start reinvesting in themselves,” say Diane Schwenke of the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce.

Applying for the scholarship is a fairly quick and easy process.

Separate applications are available for employers and employees online and must be submitted through the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce.

Once approved employees can opt to take classes at CMU, Western Colorado Community College, or courses offered in Montrose.
