GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Chelsi Reimer at the Mesa Mall said they've seen an uptick in foot traffic in the last week since the first day of school with shoppers rushing to stores to buy supplies, clothes and shoes.

An annual back to school shopping survey reports more than a quarter of parents plan to finish their shopping after the first day.

This is also the most prolonged shopping period of the year stretching throughout the entire summer.

The National Retail Federation said families will spend about
$670 during this shopping season which is a 5% increase over last year.
