EDWARDS, Colo. (AP) -- An Eagle County high school student suspected of stabbing a fellow freshman in a school restroom is facing assault charges.

The sheriff's office says a 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest Tuesday at Battle Mountain High School in Edwards, possibly with a pair of scissors. He was treated and later released from the hospital.

The student suspected in the stabbing fled the school but was arrested about an hour after the stabbing.

The sheriff's office says the suspect student was on probation for a previous assault and there's no indication the victim did anything to provoke him.

The suspect is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Denver.
