ALAMOSA, Colo. (AP) Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet is trying his hand at blue-collar work this week to make a statement about the recent government shutdown.
Bennet is touring a meatpacking assembly line in Fowler and a John Deere dealership in Alamosa on Tuesday as part of his "Coloradans Don't Shut Down" tour.
Bennet says he's making the visits to highlight the stark contrast between Colorado and Washington.
The junior senator already cleared tables at Adams Mountain CafΘ in Manitou Springs and rode along with police officers in Pueblo. He also plans to try substitute teaching in Denver.
It's a big change for the Yale-educated lawyer. Bennet made millions working for the Anschutz Investment Co. and has been in the U.S. Senate since 2009.
