Grand Junction, Colo (KKCO) ---
The most organized and sophisticated drug ring to be operated in Mesa County history was taken down by authorities after a four month long investigation.
Ten pounds of methamphetamine, nine pounds of cocaine, nine firearms, eight vehicles and almost $150,000 were allegedly confiscated.
A grand jury indictment held thirty-six criminals responsible and twenty five of them are currently behind bars with drug related charges including distribution and money laundering.
A drug supplier in Mexico has been trafficking these substances through California, Nevada, Kansas, Colorado and even to the South Eastern portion of the United States.
Authorities believe the ringleader in the United States is Meeker resident Francisco Peralta-Cabrel who, according to an indictment, is being held in the Mesa County Jail on a one million dollar cash-only bond.
The amount of collaboration between different agencies led to the break in this case. The Mesa County Police Department, DEA, Drug Task Force and SWAT teams from all over Colorado worked together to break up this dangerous drug cartel.
This case will not go to trial anytime soon as authorities are expecting to seek more search warrants, which will lead to additional arrests.
