GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- A blood drive Thursday aims to raise more than just pints of blood.
In honor of Doctor's Day, the Mesa County Medical Society Alliance (MCMSA) will give up to $800 to the Kids Aid Backpack Program, which gives food to District 51 students who would normally go hungry.
The catch? MCMSA will give $20 for each person who donates blood, so they need at least 40 people to donate blood March 14 between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the St. Mary's Regional Blood Center. It's located at 750 Wellington Avenue, Entrance 22.
Organizers call it a win-win; people have an even greater incentive to give blood and save lives.
Kids Aid sends children in need home with backpacks full of food so they won't go hungry over the weekend.
MCMSA says they especially want people 18 and older who are in good general health, weigh at least 112 pound and have not given blood within the last eight weeks. The whole process should only take 20 to 40 minutes.
