Book Blast at the Mesa Mall

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Wednesday was Book Blast at the Mesa Mall. Mackenzie Doge from 99.9 KEKB was joined by our own Glen Mills to read two books to the children.

Book Blast is a program sponsored by the mall and is designed to encourage kids to become interested in reading. After reading, the kids got a chance to participate in crafts and activities. Each one got a free canvas, book bag and bookmark.

Representatives from the Mesa County Library were also at the event, signing people up for library cards and giving out general information.

"What I find is that reading the same books over and over again can sometimes can get boring for little ones, so making things as creative as possible is much more fun for them," Laura Cardenas, mother of two.

Book Blast only happens once a year, but the mall puts on different activities throughout the year for kids as part of their Kidgits program.

Next month the kids can have bagels with the Easter bunny.
