Building a vision for Monument Road

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – The Western Slope is known for its outdoor recreation, and one local group is hoping to keep people safe while enjoying our beautiful landscapes.

The Mesa Land Trust is working with local residents to purchase open land off Monument Road to possibly build an off-road bike path and hiking trail from downtown to the Colorado National Monument.

On Tuesday at Redlands Middle School, the first of several meetings was held to gather public input on the proposal.

"It’d be a great link especially if you can make a circuit, you know, something that linked with the trails that go up South Camp Road. I just think it would be a wonderful indemnity for the community," says Ed Chamberlin, a Grand Junction resident.

The Mesa Land Trust will hold two more public meetings on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The first starts at noon at the Whitman Building on 4th and Ute. The second one will be at Redlands Middle School at 6 p.m. Two more public meetings will be held in March, followed by a couple of meetings in April.
