Denver, Colo. – The Colorado Department of Transportation approved $55 million to widen the westbound Twin Tunnel and also finalized a Memorandum of Understanding between CDOT, Clear Creek County and the City of Idaho Springs.

The MOU provides framework for making short and mid-term improvement to the long-congested corridor within Clear Creek County.

The westbound Twin Tunnel is the first of the short term project outlined in the MOU. It is anticipated to begin construction this spring.

Another short-term project will be placed in the eastbound Peak Period shoulder lane. The eastbound shoulder of I-70 from Empire Junction to Idaho Springs would be used as an express toll lane.
