CMU LGBT students run for office

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Student government elections are quickly approaching at Colorado Mesa University, and two candidates are creating quite the buzz on campus.

Juniors, Caleb Ferganchick and Sammie Martinez, are the first openly gay duo to run for CMU student govenment president and vice president.

They hope their campaign will help break barriers for the LGBT community both on and off campus.

"It's going to be really empowering for LGBT students and just anyone in general that is struggling with their identity to see people embracing who they are to benefit their campus," says Caleb Ferganchick.

The candidates will be campaigning for the next two weeks.

CMU student goverment elections will run from April 16th to the 18th.

Ferganchick and Martinez will be present at on campus events prior to elections to speak about their platform and issues they hope to tackle on campus.
