GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. A special field of flags at Colorado Mesa University delivers a special message to the community.
Monday began CMU's Holocaust Awareness Series: "Beyond the Barbed Wire."
Flags of various colors went on display as part of a memorial created by CMU students to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and modern day genocide.
"Every year you know, we hope to fill as many seats as possible. it's not just for the students. the field and the series is for the entire university community and for the Grand Junction community," says Professor Patarino.
Each flag that appears on the field represents 5,000 victims of the Nazi regime during world war two.
The aim of the Holocaust series is to promote awareness of modern day genocide to keep crimes of hate and intolerance from happening in the future.
