Culinary chefs from Western Colorado Community College made their way to the Colorado Mesa University campus for some homecoming cooking.
The week of homecoming festivities started out with top-notch food. Two teams battled it out in an Iron Chef-style competition, hoping that their dish won the judges taste buds over for the title of homecoming cooking champion.
"It's really a blast in the class. Students are engaged in all sorts of tasks all the time. It's a high-speed, high-paced environment that's just a lot of fun," said Jon St. Peter with WCCC.
And these students are no stranger to cooking under pressure.
"This group represents two culinary cooking classes that are manning [and] staffing a restaurant, so this is an assignment for that class,” said Peter.
Monday was only the beginning of a week-long homecoming celebration.
Tuesday through Friday will feature multiple events, including a school spirit campus decoration contest, a Maverick rodeo rumble, a foam dance party, and more.
All of this is leading up to the big homecoming game on Saturday, when the CMU Mavs will face off against New Mexico Highlands University.
