GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -- New details are coming to light about Colorado Mesa University's connections to a student arrested yesterday for threatening to kill the president and massacre adults and children.

Westminster resident Mitchell Kusick, 20, was taken into custody after he told his therapist that he planned on shooting children at a local high school on Halloween, according to a criminal complaint. He also said he had been tracking President Obama’s visits to Colorado because he wanted to assassinate the president.

On Kusick’s Facebook, he claims he is a nursing student at Colorado Mesa Univesrity. The school released a statement today, clarifying that he’s an online student who “qualified for an academic scholarship that requires a high school grade point average of at least 3.75 and an ACT score of 29 or higher.”

The statement says the university was surprised to learn of his arrest and that he is not enrolled in the nursing program.

“The university has taken appropriate action to maintain the safety of our students, faculty and staff on all our campuses,” the statement says.

However, Kusick did attend classes at the Grand Junction CMU campus last year. KKCO 11 News will have an interview with one of his former roommates tonight on the 5:30 p.m. newscast. Tune in to hear the roommate's reaction to Kusick's arrest.
