GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. Colorado Mesa University is celebrating their student veterans with a brand new lounge inside of Houston Hall.

The Student Veterans' Association cut the ribbon on their new student lounge on Thursday morning.

Student veterans will now have a variety of resources available to them in one central location.

President of the group Barry Teeple said the main goal of the new center is to help ease their transition into students at CMU.

"We're hoping to help to retain student veterans by offering peer to peer mentoring, tutoring, like veteran to veteran tutoring and support of that nature," said Teeple.

Teeple also says the organization is focusing on helping veterans enroll in classes, get advisers, and give them a place where they can meet other student veterans.

The new center offers students help in finding a job after graduation by partnering nationally with Veterans Association of America.
