CO shoppers head to malls for Black Friday deals

DENVER (AP) -- The parking lots at many Colorado shopping centers are crowded as shoppers take advantage of Black Friday deals. But others are taking a break after hitting stores on Thanksgiving.

Walmart opened its stores at 8 p.m. on Thursday, prompting protests from some of its workers. In Colorado, community leaders are scheduled to hold a rally in support of Walmart workers at 8 a.m. Friday at a store in Lakewood. There may not be many shoppers around to witness it. KCNC-TV reported that few shoppers were left in the store by morning.

Target stores opened at 9 p.m. and workers were allowed to sign up for the shifts they preferred on Thanksgiving. The Gazette reports that workers in Colorado Springs were given the option of working shorter shifts so no had to work overnight.
