UPDATE: CSP investigating fatal two vehicle crash

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Authorities are continuing their investigation after a morning car accident claims the lives of two children.

Colorado State Patrol officials say the accident occurred on Highway 50 near milepost 169 around 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

A Chevy Colbalt was traveling westbound on Highway 50 when the driver lost control on the snow packed highway. The Colbalt spun into the eastbound lane where it was hit by a Chevy Beretta.

The Colbalt's driver was a 22-year old woman from Irving, Texas. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. There were two children in her car at the time of the accident. Both were properly restrained, but suffered fatal injuries.

A five-year old boy died at the scene of the crash, and a two-year old girl was taken to the hospital where she later passed away.

The driver of the Beretta was 23-year old male from Gunnison. He sustained just minor injuries in the crash.

Authorities say no charges have been filed against either driver at this time. The investigation is on-going.


GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – A fatal two vehicle crash occurred this morning at 8:05 a.m. on Highway 50.

Colorado State Patrol says a 1994 Chevrolet Coupe and a 2008 Chevy Sudan crashed into each other. There was a woman and two children in the Coupe. One child is dead while the other child is in critical condition. The woman is seriously injured.

The eastbound lanes are blocked on Highway 50. There will be some minor delays.
