Cattle truck crashes, closes I-25 near Fountain

Semi truck pulling a livestock trailer

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a tractor-trailer carrying about 90 head of cattle overturned near Fountain, forcing the closure of the northbound lanes of Interstate 25.

KRDO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/10qGJGO) the southbound semi-truck blew a tire, crossed the me dian and overturned in the northbound lanes at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Another car crashed into a guardrail as the driver tried to avoid the crash, and a second car crashed into the truck.

Colorado Department of Transportation crews reopened the interstate at about 9 a.m. Sunday, and workers from a nearby ranch helped relocate the calves.

Some of the animals were killed and others were hurt, suffering broken legs. None of the drivers involved was injured.
