GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Christmas came early for some local families who now have bags full of presents thanks to local high schoolers.
20 students in Central High School's service learning class let people take clothes, books, toys and more for free at Saturday's Holiday Heroes event.
"It's a lot of help," said Ashley Mock, who attended the event. "People don't realize sometimes how much blankets are and sheets and coats and stuff like that. It really adds up especially at this time of year because you're still trying to plan for Christmas."
The students had been collecting the items since the beginning of the school year to give to people at a time of year when money is tight.
"It just really shows that our hard work really paid off," said Kalene Borrego, a sophomore at Central High School. "Just seeing everyone's face and the smiles."
Anything leftover from the tables of items will be donated to the Salvation Army.
The service learning class helps students get their hours for graduation while coordinating community events.
